Two Arrested After Traffic Stop

Carson City, Nev. — Two men were arrested Friday following a Carson City Sheriff’s Office traffic stop prompted by an expired and suspended vehicle registration, according to an arrest report.

A CCSO deputy observed a vehicle traveling southbound on North Carson Street and learned the registration had expired Oct. 8, 2024, and was suspended effective Feb. 20, 2024. The driver, identified as Rene Garcia Montez, told deputies he had recently purchased the vehicle.

He provided a Nevada identification card and said he did not have a driver’s license. The passenger also claimed he did not have identification, but provided identifying information.

Records checks showed neither man had a valid driver’s license or outstanding warrants, and the driver stated he had no vehicle insurance.

After a cover unit arrived, the driver and passenger got out of the vehicle. The driver consented to a search of his person.

A CCSO K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics. Deputies searched the vehicle and located suspected methamphetamine that tested positive.

While booking the driver, a detention deputy located three debit cards that did not belong to him. As a result, Montez is facing charges of suspicion of obtaining or possessing a debit or credit card without the owner’s consent and possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies booked the passenger for possession of a controlled substance.
