Fernley, Nev. — One person was killed Monday night in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 westbound near the Fernley area, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m. NHP troopers responded to reports of a vehicle that had lost control while traveling westbound on I-80. Following a preliminary investigation, troopers determined the automobile ran off the right shoulder of the roadway for unknown reasons.
Authorities say the driver then overcorrected, steering back to the left across all westbound lanes of traffic before striking the center median. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle.
NHP confirmed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
