HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Nev. — A bicyclist has died after being struck by a vehicle on State Route 294 near mile marker 4 in Humboldt County, according to the Nevada State Police.

The crash occurred around 6:53 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16. Troopers say a black Pontiac Bonneville was traveling southbound on State Route 294 when it struck a bicyclist who was also heading southbound in front of the vehicle.

The bicyclist was Aregelio Hernandez-Torres. Investigators say the bicycle did not have the required red rear reflectors.

The right front of the vehicle struck the rear of the bicycle, causing Hernandez-Torres to fall from the bike. The driver of the Pontiac then pulled over and came to a controlled stop on the shoulder.

Hernandez-Torres was transported for medical care and later transferred to a hospital in Utah, where he died on December 25, troopers said.

Nevada State Police report they have investigated 28 fatal crashes resulting in 34 fatalities statewide so far in 2025.

The crash remains under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team. Anyone with information should contact the NHP Elko Office at (775) 753-1111.
