Three Charged Under Washoe County Camping Ban

RENO, Nev. (Dec. 16, 2025) — Three people have been charged under Washoe County’s camping ban ordinance since it went into effect in June 2024, according to county officials. They say the charges were issued only after individuals received both verbal and written warnings.

Since the ordinance’s implementation, the county’s Homeless Outreach Proactive Engagement (HOPE) Team has made over 4,500 contacts with persons experiencing homelessness in an effort to connect them with services and resources. County data shows that 262 individuals have secured resources, and 116 people are in transitional housing.

Additionally, officials report that approximately 56 abandoned campsite cleanups have been conducted during that time, resulting in the removal of nearly 450 cubic yards of debris.
