A man in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a suspected impaired driver late Sunday night on East Fremont Street.
The collision occurred just after 11:10 p.m. at the intersection of Fremont Street and Oakey Boulevard, located between Sahara Avenue and Charleston Boulevard.
Investigators believe a Kia Optima was traveling northbound when it struck the man in the wheelchair, who was crossing the street outside of a marked or unmarked crosswalk. Following the collision, the driver of the Kia stopped and called 9-1-1.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead. Police have indicated that they suspect the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash.
