A 41-year-old Sun Valley man was arrested Saturday following a high-speed pursuit that began with a report of a stolen vehicle and ended with the suspect ramming through locked gates and fleeing on foot before being apprehended by a police K9 unit.
The Storey County Sheriff’s Office was alerted around 11:11 a.m. to Earl Houlden, who was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle in the area of I-80 and Lockwood. Houlden was also wanted for questioning in a domestic battery incident and was believed to be armed, according to police reports.
After a deputy located Houlden traveling on Waltham Way in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center and attempted a traffic stop, Houlden initially complied but then fled the scene. The pursuit continued south on USA Parkway with Houlden allegedly running multiple red lights and driving recklessly.
The chase ended after Houlden drove onto private property, ramming through two locked gates before continuing on an unpaved road where deputies briefly lost sight of the vehicle. Houlden was found about half a mile from his last known location and allegedly failed to comply with commands, fleeing on foot before being apprehended by a K9 unit.
