The Reno City Council voted 4-3 on Wednesday to direct staff to develop a Request for Proposals process for the Lear Theater.
City staff will now create a framework to evaluate future proposals from outside entities interested in purchasing or managing the building. The decision comes after months of discussion about the theater’s future, with community input favoring a multi-use community or arts center over a traditional performance venue.
The theater, which lacks utilities and has structural issues, could be restored for year-round use if a suitable proposal is selected.
