Two people were arrested Sunday morning after a traffic stop in Storey County led deputies to discover narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and a suspected incendiary device inside a vehicle.
A Storey County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle with expired registration around 9:50 a.m. on April 5 in the Lockwood area. When the deputy approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, he observed a glass pipe and tin foil with burn marks in plain view.
The driver, identified as 38-year-old Joseph Caldwell of Reno, and a passenger, 30-year-old Jordan Hall of Woodland, California, were asked to exit the vehicle. Based on the visible paraphernalia, the deputy conducted a probable cause search.
During the search, authorities say the deputy located illicit narcotics, additional drug paraphernalia, and an incendiary device. Investigators also reported finding what they described as a lab setup in the trunk, including specialty glassware, tubing, and chemical materials commonly associated with the manufacturing of illegal drugs, along with butane heat sources.
Several glass jars containing a dark-colored liquid were also discovered. Due to the potentially hazardous nature of the materials, the Washoe County Consolidated Bomb Squad and the Consolidated Law Enforcement All-Hazards Response (CLEAR) Team were called to assist.
Both Caldwell and Hall denied ownership of the items found in the vehicle.
Caldwell was arrested on multiple charges, including manufacturing or attempting to manufacture a controlled substance, possession of controlled substances across multiple schedules, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of an explosive or incendiary device in or near a public or private area. Hall was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both suspects were transported to the Storey County Detention Facility.
