Suspended Clark County Judge to Remain Off Bench

Clark County District Court Judge Erika Ballou, suspended without pay for 18 months last September, will remain suspended for the remainder of her current term, which ends in 2026.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline sanctioned Ballou for failing to send a criminal defendant to prison and defying state Supreme Court orders, according to findings released on September 22, 2025. She failed to complete a required specialized remedial training program within the required six months.

Ballou is not seeking re-election.

The disciplinary case arose after Ballou allegedly violated the code of judicial conduct by refusing to remand 31-year-old Mia Christman, despite a Supreme Court order reversing her earlier decision to support Christman’s release. Ballou also failed to enter judgments in favor of prosecutors as ordered, address motions filed by the state, or disqualify herself from the case.

A grand jury indicted Christman in 2013 for a violent crime spree committed when she was 18.

Ballou, elected in 2020 to a six-year term, will be succeeded by Colleen Brown, a prosecutor in the district attorney’s office who is running unopposed for the seat.
