Nevada Woman Accused of Stealing Social Security Benefits

A Nevada woman is facing multiple federal charges after prosecutors say she illegally collected more than $365,000 in Social Security benefits issued in her deceased grandmother’s name.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Narda Yvonne Locklear allegedly continued receiving and using the payments for personal expenses beginning in 2009, after her grandmother had died. Authorities say the Social Security Administration was not notified of the death and continued depositing benefits into a bank account tied to the grandmother.

Investigators allege Locklear had access to the account through a debit card issued in her grandmother’s name, allowing her to withdraw and spend the funds over a period of years.

The DOJ also claims Locklear made false statements to the Social Security Administration, both in an application for benefits and during subsequent eligibility reviews.

Locklear faces three counts of bank fraud, two counts of theft of government money, and one count of aggravated identity theft. If convicted on all counts, she faces a maximum sentence of up to 112 years in federal prison.
