Body Found in Truckee River

The body believed to be that of a 19-year-old man who went missing in the Truckee River west of Floriston over the weekend was recovered on Monday.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the discovery on Monday following a multi-agency search effort that began Saturday. Officials have not yet formally released the victim’s identity.

However, friends and family have identified the man as Brian Marcelino Gallardo. His family also provided photos of the 19-year-old. According to the sheriff’s office, Gallardo had been with friends when he jumped into the river and began struggling to stay afloat.

Search and rescue crews launched an operation as soon as the report came in.

Authorities stated water temperatures in the river were around 40 degrees at the time, creating dangerous conditions.

The search continued through the weekend into Monday, until the body was located. Officials have not released additional details, including the exact location of the recovery or the cause of death, pending further investigation.
