The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the national average life expectancy in the United States is 77.5 years, with differences persisting between states and gaps of up to 7.8 years.
In Nevada, the average life expectancy is 76.4 years, putting the Silver State below the national average and in the lower-middle tier nationally. It trails neighbors like California at 79.3 years and Colorado at 78.5 years, despite Nevada’s growing economy and urban centers.
Hawaii leads the nation with an average life expectancy of 80 years, followed by Massachusetts at 79.8 years and New Jersey at 79.6 years. At the other end, West Virginia has the lowest life expectancy at 72.2 years, Mississippi has 72.6 years, and Kentucky has 73.6 years.
Women outlive men in every state, and more than half of the states fall below the national average. Overall, life expectancy has begun to recover from the pandemic low of 76.4 years.
