The dean of the University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Education and Human Development is facing a faculty confidence vote following allegations about his leadership and conduct.
Faculty voted Friday morning to move forward with a formal review of Dean Donald Easton Brooks, with the motion passing overwhelmingly, 56 in favor, two abstentions, and no opposition.
Brooks has been at UNR for seven years, coming from the University of South Dakota. Faculty members say he has not received a formal evaluation during that time, despite expectations that one would occur at the five-year mark.
While many faculty declined to speak publicly, citing concerns about retaliation, anonymous complaints describe allegations of bullying, unprofessional behavior, and inappropriate comments about women’s appearance. Some faculty have also raised concerns about turnover within the college.
Faculty will cast their votes in a confidential online ballot open for 24 hours, with voting ending at 10 on Saturday morning.
Brooks said he is aware of the vote but has not received notification of the specific allegations against him.
While the results of the vote are non-binding, they could influence how university leadership chooses to respond.
