Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford has joined a legal challenge against the Trump administration over its decision to rescind the 2009 Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Finding, a key federal determination linking vehicle emissions to climate change and public health risks.
The original finding concluded greenhouse gas pollution from motor vehicles contributes to climate change and endangers public health, forming the legal basis for federal regulation of such emissions.
The Trump administration moved to reverse the finding last month, calling it an example of federal overreach and arguing that the Environmental Protection Agency lacks the authority to regulate greenhouse gases.
Ford disagrees, calling the rollback unlawful and unsupported by both legal precedent and scientific evidence.
According to Ford, the administration’s justification relies on what he claims is flawed legal reasoning and ignores decades of climate research establishing the link between greenhouse gas emissions and environmental and health impacts.
The lawsuit seeks to reinstate the 2009 finding and preserve the federal government’s authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under existing law.
