Reno Driver Sentenced for Reckless Injury Crash

Victor Ledezma-Caballero, the driver involved in a December 2023 crash on Plumb Lane that left three people injured, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison.

The crash occurred after 6:15 a.m. on December 13, 2023, when Ledezma-Caballero, driving at about 70 mph, crossed into oncoming traffic near Hunter Lake Drive and collided head-on with an SUV. All three occupants required hospitalization.

Ledezma-Caballero was arrested in June 2024 and charged with multiple offenses, including driving under the influence, causing substantial bodily harm, and reckless driving. A jury found him guilty of two counts of reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm.

During sentencing, Judge Riggs initially imposed a sentence of 28 to 72 months for both counts to run concurrently, but then suspended that sentence in favor of a 36-month term. Ledezma-Caballero must also serve eight months in jail, receiving credit for 60 days already served, complete alcohol and controlled substance therapy, undergo a substance use evaluation upon release, and is subject to search and seizure at any time, and is prohibited from contacting one of the male victims.

The state had sought the maximum consecutive sentences, while the defense had requested probation. The sentencing reflects a balance between those recommendations while holding Ledezma-Caballero accountable for a crash that caused serious injuries.
