Fernley Councilman Removed From Office

Fernley City Councilman Stan Lau has been removed from the Fernley City Council following a series of recent outbursts during council meetings, according to the acting city manager.

During a council meeting, the board heard findings of his behavior before members voted to expel him from office.

The action comes months after Lau was censured formally by the council in September amid allegations of misconduct. At that time, the council voted to strip him of his committee assignments following concerns about his behavior during council meetings and within the community.

In a separate matter, charges were dropped against Lau in a misdemeanor battery case due to timing and technical issues with the incident.

The charge stemmed from an altercation last summer between Lau and a construction worker at a traffic construction site in Fernley. The incident led to allegations of battery and injury to property.

With Lau now removed from office, the mayor must appoint a replacement to fill the vacant council seat at the next Fernley City Council meeting.
