White Pine County Unable to Meet Financial Obligations

White Pine County officials stated they will notify the state of Nevada that the county will be unable to meet its financial obligations beginning March 16.

The situation stems from ongoing staff vacancies and limited administrative capacity within key financial offices, which have hindered the county’s ability to manage its financial operations. The White Pine County Commission plans to approve sending a formal notice to the Nevada Department of Taxation during its meeting on Wednesday.

Under Nevada law, if a severe financial emergency is declared, the Department of Taxation has the authority to assume control of a local government’s financial management to meet obligations and stabilize operations.
