Carson City Man Arrested for Felony Animal Abuse

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of animal abuse after deputies say he struck his dog with a frying pan, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Authorities identified the suspect as Anthony Meinen, a resident of an apartment on Jeanell. Deputies responded to assist an animal control officer after a witness provided a video showing Meinen hitting the dog twice on the head with a flat pan.

When deputies arrived at the apartment, Meinen answered the door. A dog later identified as Bucky was running around the apartment and approached the officers. Deputies showed Meinen the video and explained that it appeared to depict him striking the dog.

Meinen told deputies that he had become upset because the dog had been chewing the floor and walls. He acknowledged that he overreacted, striking Bucky twice on the head.

He stated that the dog did not bleed or appear dizzy from the strikes. After discussion with deputies, Meinen agreed to sign Bucky over to Animal Control, which took custody of the dog.

Meinen was then arrested and booked on suspicion of felony animal abuse. According to the booking report, he told deputies he understood the charges and expressed remorse for his actions.
