Carson City Man Arrested for Elderly Battery

A 37-year-old man was arrested Monday, March 2, on suspicion of battery/abuse of an elderly person, open or gross lewdness, and violation of probation conditions.

Deputies identified the suspect as Mark Burgor.

Deputies were dispatched at 3:50 p.m. to East William Street after a report of a battery. Upon arrival, deputies observed the victim with lacerations to the head and face.

The victim told officers that a man with a ponytail, wearing white pants and smelling of alcohol, approached him and pushed him in the chest, sparking a physical altercation in which both men fell to the ground. The victim described the suspect as heavily intoxicated, fleeing westbound toward Mills Park after the incident.

A witness inside the building suggested that surveillance footage might have captured the altercation, and another witness reported seeing the suspect strike the victim in the head before leaving the area. Fire department personnel evaluated the victim at the scene, but he declined transport to the hospital. Deputies documented the victim’s injuries with photographs.

Deputies reviewing video evidence reported that Burgor advanced on the victim with closed fists, leading to both men falling to the ground. In the footage, Burgor strikes the victim in the head while on top of him and applies a choke hold.

Bystanders intervened to break up the altercation.

Burgor was subsequently taken into custody by deputies, transported to the hospital for medical clearance, and booked into jail without incident.

Later that evening, deputies received a report and video showing Burgor urinating in public at Mills Park around 4 p.m., near public restrooms and in view of children playing on nearby swings. Deputies confirmed the video depicted Burgor with his hands at his waist while urinating behind a leafless bush, constituting open or gross lewdness.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office said Burgor remains in custody pending charges for both the assault and the public lewdness incident.
