The City of Reno has approved a $702,000 contract to build new fencing in the Virginia Foothills to protect wild horses and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.
The Horse Protection Project–South Phase has been awarded to Soli-Tech, which will install fencing, cattle guards, and access gates along NV 341 from Kenneth Way to Toll Road. The work will close gaps in previously completed barriers.
Funding comes from the city’s General Capital Projects Fund, with reimbursement from the Nevada Department of Transportation.
City officials say the project will prevent wild horses from wandering into roadways and neighborhoods, protecting both the animals and the public.\
The North Phase of the project was completed in May 2025, while work crews plan to have the South Phase finished by summer.
