California Sex Offender Arrested in Lyon County

A registered sex offender from California is facing charges in Lyon County after deputies say he failed to register while staying in Nevada.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the Central Command Patrol Squad and members of the agency’s Sex Offender Task Force responded around 3:30 p.m. Feb. 24 to the 2700 block of Highway 50 East in Silver Springs on a report of trespassing.

When deputies arrived, they contacted 34-year-old John Kyle Stevens. During the investigation, authorities determined Stevens is a registered sex offender in California. Deputies say further investigation revealed he had been in Nevada for more than 48 hours and had not registered with any law enforcement agency in the state, as required by law.

Stevens was taken into custody and booked into the Lyon County Jail on one felony count of failing to register as a sex offender and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
