Nevada Congresswoman Dina Titus openly acknowledged Tuesday that the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown is harming her own state, not federal bureaucrats or political opponents.
Her remarks highlighted the economic stakes for a state heavily reliant on tourism, conventions, and travel. Millions of visitors pass through Nevada airports each year, and disruptions to Transportation Security Administration staffing directly affect hotels, casinos, restaurants, and the workers who depend on them.
Titus named several agencies impacted by the shutdown, including TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, and suggested they be carved out of the standoff and funded separately. She also made an admission regarding ICE, noting that the agency remains funded under the latest budget.
Critic quickly highlighted the remarks, noting that the Congresswoman appeared to confirm three points at once: the shutdown harms Nevada, the effort cannot defund ICE, and the political maneuvering achieves little beyond disruption.
