Nevada Flags 16 Insurers

At least 16 insurance carriers in Nevada may have violated federal mental health and addiction parity laws last year, a state report shows, putting extra barriers in place for patients seeking care.

The second annual report, prepared by the Nevada Division of Insurance (NDI), revealed several concerning practices among insurance carriers. The report found that these carriers often required prior approvals that were not publicly listed, denied more mental health claims compared to medical claims, offered lower reimbursement rates for mental health services, and had less rigorous credentialing processes for mental health providers.

The report, published Dec. 31, 2025, publicly names insurers for the first time. Among those flagged are United Healthcare, Aetna, SilverSummit Health Plan, Health Plan of Nevada, and Sierra Health and Life.

The violations come in a state consistently ranked last in overall mental health. Experts say disparities in insurance coverage contribute to provider shortages, higher costs, and limited access to care.

While the NDI has issued no fines yet, it plans to conduct further market examinations and provide enforcement actions, including penalties up to $50,000.
