A Winnemucca man has been arrested and faces multiple charges in connection with the death of his infant son, authorities announced Thursday.
Police identified 34-year-old Mathew Lee Eaton as a suspect after the child was taken to Humboldt General Hospital in April 2025, unresponsive. When medical staff were unable to revive the child, they flew him to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for further care. Despite medical efforts, the infant died approximately two weeks later.
Following an investigation, detectives arrested Eaton, who is at the Humboldt County Detention Center without bail. Eaton faces one count of open murder, one count of first-degree murder, and one count of child abuse with substantial bodily harm.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances leading to the child’s death.
