Semi-Truck Ignores Chain Requirements

A commercial semi-truck became stuck on icy roads in Sierra Valley on Wednesday after attempting to drive without chains during active winter conditions, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The truck was first spotted sliding into Loyalton at an unsafe speed. The driver briefly lost traction on the snow-covered roadway but managed to regain control before a crash occurred.

A deputy pulled the truck over and escorted it to Harriet Lane so the driver could turn around. While attempting the maneuver, the semi became stuck due to the icy surface and lack of chains. Deputies freed the truck, which was then parked safely off Highway 49 with no further incident.

The California Highway Patrol also responded and issued citations. Officials said this was one of four commercial big rigs stopped Wednesday for failing to comply with chain requirements along Highway 49.
