Carson Woman Arrested for DUI, Hit-and-Run

A 48-year-old Carson City woman was arrested the night of Feb. 6 on suspicion of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident following a reported hit-and-run near Upland Court and Prospect Drive.

According to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report, deputies were dispatched at approximately 10:53 p.m. after receiving a report that a vehicle had attempted to pass another car by crossing a double yellow line at a high rate of speed, struck the vehicle, and failed to stop.

Deputies contacted the reporting party, who said he and his girlfriend were on their way to the Western Nevada College observatory when the suspect vehicle attempted to pass them by crossing into oncoming traffic. The maneuver allegedly resulted in the suspect vehicle striking the front driver’s side of their car.

The deputy observed minor damage to the front driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle.

The reporting party told deputies he followed the suspect vehicle westbound on Timberline Drive, flashing his headlights in an attempt to get the driver to stop. At one point, the suspect vehicle stopped, and a female driver yelled out the window before driving away again, according to the report.

The reporting party also told deputies he believed the driver was intoxicated based on her driving pattern. The booking report notes that the reporting party identified himself as a deputy sheriff with the Eureka County Sheriff’s Office.

A Carson City deputy later observed the suspect vehicle turning onto Prospect Drive. A short time later, another deputy advised that the vehicle had arrived at a residence matching the address listed on the vehicle’s registration.

Deputies made contact with the driver, identified as the registered owner of the vehicle. According to the report, deputies detected an odor of alcohol coming from her person. They also noted her slurred speech, and her eyes were red and watery.

Deputies observed blue paint transfer on the rear passenger-side tire of the suspect vehicle, consistent with the color and damage observed on the victim’s vehicle.

When asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, the woman was initially apprehensive but agreed to participate. Deputies reported she showed signs of impairment during the tests.

She declined to provide a preliminary breath test at the scene. She was then placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. After being read the request for voluntary evidence, she agreed to provide breath samples.

Her breath tests returned results of .177 and .170 blood alcohol concentration.
