Earthquake Shakes Northern Elko County

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck northern Elko County early Saturday morning, Feb. 8, 2026, briefly shaking communities near Battle Mountain and across the surrounding region.

According to preliminary reports, the quake occurred north of Battle Mountain at a shallow depth, which likely contributed to the shaking felt over a wider area. Residents reported light shaking, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Nevada is one of the most seismically active states in the country, and small to moderate earthquakes are common, particularly in northern and central regions.
