Amodei Announces Retirement from Congress

U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei announced he will retire from Congress, saying he plans to complete his current term before stepping aside after 15 years of service representing Nevada’s Second Congressional District.

In a statement announcing his decision, Amodei said serving Nevadans has been the “honor of my lifetime.”

Amodei, a Nevada native, has served as the U.S. representative for Nevada’s Second Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Natural Resources Committee, serving on the Federal Lands and Oversight Investigations subcommittees.

He also sits on the House Appropriations Committee and serves on the Financial Services and Interior subcommittees. Amodei has served as the chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee since 2024.

Before his time in Congress, Amodei served in both the Nevada State Assembly and State Senate. He was chairman of the Nevada Republican Party until May 2011 and previously served as president of the Nevada Mining Association.

Nevada’s Second Congressional District includes the majority of Lyon County and Carson City, as well as all of Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Storey, Washoe, and White Pine counties. Amodei’s retirement will open the seat ahead of the next congressional election cycle.
