Former Reno Mayor Jeff Griffin passed away on Thursday at the age of 81.
Griffin served as Reno’s mayor from 1995 to 2002, a period marked by significant regional transportation and development efforts. According to a statement from the City of Reno, and served nationally as chair of the Criminal and Social Justice Committee for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Griffin was diagnosed with cancer on July 4 of last year, according to his family. He passed away just weeks before what would have been his 58th wedding anniversary.
In recognition of his contributions to the city, Reno honored Griffin with a Reno People Award and a proclamation in 2018.
