Skier Dies After Tumble at Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Mountain confirmed that a skier died after a severe fall on one of the resort’s expert-only chutes on Wednesday, February 5.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. in Dropout 2, a challenging chute accessible from the top of Chair 23. Ski patrol was dispatched immediately and arrived on scene at 1:04 p.m., finding the guest unconscious and unresponsive.

Ski patrol administered life-saving care on site before transferring the individual to paramedics, who continued treatment while transporting the skier to Mammoth Hospital. Despite the rapid response and emergency care, the skier was pronounced dead.

Officials say notification of next of kin is still pending.
