Data Shows Leading Causes of Crashes

New data from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is shedding light on the primary causes of traffic crashes in the area.

According to the sheriff’s office, an increase in crashes in 2025 prompted the Office of Traffic Management Unit to analyze collision data. The review found that distracted driving and failure to yield the right of way were the leading factors in most crashes.

Officials said distracted driving can take many forms, including talking or texting on a cell phone, eating or drinking, talking to passengers, and adjusting a vehicle’s interior controls.
