Public Protest Period Opens for Oil and Gas Lease Sale

A 30-day public protest period has opened to gather additional input on 11 proposed oil and gas lease parcels in Nevada, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

The protest period began Friday, January 30, and will close Monday, March 2. The parcels under consideration total 19,957 acres and are scheduled to be offered in an online oil and gas lease sale on Tuesday, March 31.

The BLM completed its initial scoping process for the parcels in September 2025 and previously held a public comment period on the proposed leases and related environmental analysis.

The comment period closed in December 2025.
