A wolf has been spotted on the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) wolf tracking map in the Truckee area, prompting local officials to urge residents to remain alert and take precautions.
The wolves appeared near the community on Sunday, Feb. 1. Authorities said that members of the public should not approach, feed, or harass the wolves.
Police are asking residents to closely supervise pets, particularly during early morning and evening hours when wildlife is more active. They are also encouraging livestock owners to take additional steps to protect their animals.
Anyone who observes a wolf should report the sighting to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife through its Wildlife Incident Reporting line at (916) 358-3917. Officials say reporting sightings helps ensure accurate documentation and monitoring of wolf movement.
A similar advisory was issued in Sierra County after a wolf appeared on the CDFW tracking map near Loyalton. To contact Sierra County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, residents can call (530) 289-3700.
