A Reno attorney has resigned from his law firm following public disclosure of past personal ties to a former Washoe County judge, marking the latest development in a legal controversy that continues to unfold.
Matt Addison, a longtime partner and former managing partner of the Reno office of McDonald Carano LLP, has resigned from the firm after details emerged about a past personal relationship with Washoe District Court Judge Bridget Robb.
“McDonald Carano has accepted Matt Addison’s resignation effective Feb. 2, 2026,” the firm said in a statement.
The resignation follows revelations contained in legal filings connected to a temporary protective order (TPO) case involving Robb. The filings referenced an alleged 10 year prior casual sexual relationship between Robb and Addison, described in court documents as including “friends with benefits.”
The disclosures came during increasing scrutiny of Robb, who has since resigned from the bench and withdrawn from a related judicial campaign. The situation has prompted broader concerns about potential conflicts of interest, leading court officials to review cases that may have been affected by the undisclosed personal connections.
Addison, a Reno native, joined McDonald Carano in 1989 and became a partner in 1998. He served as managing partner of the firm’s Reno office from 2018 through 2025. His legal practice focused on construction law and complex litigation.
In addition to his private practice, Addison held several public and quasi-judicial roles over the years, including serving as an administrative law judge for the Nevada State Contractors Board and as a pro tem judge in various courts.
Court proceedings related to the matter are ongoing, and officials have not yet indicated how many cases may be subject to review as a result of the disclosures.
