Washoe Valley, Nev. — A man responsible for a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in Washoe Valley last year is going to prison for up to 26 years.
Travis Smith, 43, was sentenced Thursday after previously pleading guilty to duty to stop at the scene of an accident causing substantial bodily harm or death, a felony under Nevada law. Smith will be eligible for parole after serving 96 months, or eight years, of his sentence.
The case stems from a hit-and-run crash on Eastlake Boulevard, between Guffey Drive and Side View Way. The victim, identified as Joshua Neely, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
As the investigation continued, detectives identified Smith as the suspect. He cooperated with law enforcement and later turned himself in.
