Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Rollover

Yerington, Nev. — An 18-year-old man died, and three other minors were injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday night on Mason Pass Road, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the crash at approximately 8:49 p.m. on Jan. 9 on Mason Pass Road between Yerington and Smith Valley. The incident occurred just before 9 p.m., authorities said.

When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle that had rolled over with four occupants inside. Three of the occupants were juveniles. Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Department.

First responders immediately initiated life-saving measures on one individual and provided medical aid to the remaining occupants. Despite resuscitation efforts, an 18-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim sustained serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno for advanced medical treatment. Paramedics took the other two to South Lyon Medical Center for further evaluation and care. Officials have not released the extent of their injuries.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said it will not release any additional information at this time, including the identities of those involved or the cause of the crash. Authorities did not say whether speed, alcohol, or road conditions were factors.
