Carson City, Nev. — A 37-year-old man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony preventing a victim from reporting a crime and misdemeanor domestic battery, according to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 12:15 p.m. to a residence on Butti Way. Upon arrival, deputies saw two women in the hallway, one of whom ran toward an officer while a man stood in a doorway yelling at her before retreating inside.
The victim told deputies the man became angry, grabbed her by the hair, pushed her against a wall, and took her phone while she was trying to call for help. She said he threw the phone, breaking it, and forced her out of the apartment without shoes or personal items.
Deputies observed damage inside the apartment, including a shattered picture frame and a broken phone. They also reported that the victim was hysterically crying.
A witness later told deputies the victim called her in distress, saying the suspect grabbed her by the neck, pinned her to a wall, and tried to stop her from leaving.
The suspect, identified as Steven Richard Sain, admitted to taking the victim’s phone and was arrested. After his arrest, he claimed the victim had a knife, though deputies found no weapons.
