Sparks, Nev. — Residents living in their vehicles now have a safe place to park overnight thanks to a new pilot program launched by Washoe County in partnership with Our Place, a local nonprofit addressing homelessness.
The program, running through Friday, May 15, offers six parking spaces on a first-come, first-served basis at the Our Place campus in Sparks. The campus includes showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, and meal services.
To participate, vehicles must be registered, insured, and operational, and individuals must be at least 18 years old with proof of employment or school enrollment. Participants may bring a partner, loved one, or pets for a maximum stay of 10 days.
Washoe County will evaluate the program based on data collected through May 15.
