Judicial candidate filing for the 2026 election begins today, Jan. 5, and runs through Friday, Jan. 16, at the Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office. Filing for nonjudicial offices will open later, starting Monday, Mar. 2.
Candidates are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling (775) 328-3670. Walk-ins will be accepted, but appointments will receive priority.
To file, candidates must present a valid driver’s license showing their residential address or provide documentation such as a utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck that includes their residential address.
Cash, cashier’s check, or certified check only will be accepted for filing fees. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.
Under Senate Bill 418, passed by the Nevada Legislature in 2023, nonincumbent judicial candidates are required to complete an SB418 questionnaire at the time of filing. Officials recommend completing the questionnaire in advance to streamline the process.
The Washoe County Registrar of Voters serves as the filing officer only for offices located entirely within Washoe County. Candidates for city offices, multi-county districts, or statewide races must file with the appropriate jurisdiction.
The Registrar of Voters Office is at 1001 E. Ninth Street, Building A, Room 135, on the first floor in Reno.
