LYON COUNTY, Nev. — A convicted sex offender died while in law enforcement custody following an arrest by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force on Dec. 31, authorities said.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrested the individual in the Dayton area after receiving an anonymous tip alleging the person was not complying with sex offender registration requirements. The person was in custody and en route to the Lyon County Jail for booking.
During the transport, a deputy stopped at the Silver Springs Substation to adjust the individual’s restraints. At that time, the deputy discovered the person was unresponsive.
Deputies and Central Lyon Fire personnel immediately attempted lifesaving measures, but the individual was later pronounced dead.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada State Police Investigations Division are investigating the death under the Regional Critical Incident Investigation Protocol. Authorities say the process is standard procedure for in-custody deaths.
The individual’s name is unknown.
