CARSON CITY, Nev. (Dec. 12, 2025) – The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the state of Nevada, alleging it failed to provide voter registration lists upon request. Nevada is one of four states targeted in the suits, alongside Colorado, Hawaii, and Massachusetts.

“States have the statutory duty to preserve and protect their constituents from vote dilution,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division. “At this Department of Justice, we will not permit states to jeopardize the integrity and effectiveness of elections by refusing to abide by our federal elections laws. If states will not fulfill their duty to protect the integrity of the ballot, we will.”

The legal action emphasizes the DOJ’s ongoing efforts to enforce federal election laws and ensure nationwide access to voter registration information.
