Reno Man Convicted of Shooting Friend

A jury found a Reno man guilty of shooting a visiting friend during an argument over cars and money last September, and now faces up to 16 years in prison.

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office announced that Eddie Lao-Rodriguez was found guilty of Battery with the Use of a Deadly Weapon and Own or Possess a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on September 30, 2025, when Lao-Rodriguez got into an argument with his 46-year-old friend at his North Virginia Street home. The dispute escalated, and Lao-Rodriguez shot the victim in the legs. Authorities say Lao-Rodriguez continued to fire at the victim as he fled the residence.

The victim was able to make his way to a hospital emergency room around 7 p.m. that evening, where police learned of the shooting. He was released from the hospital later that night.

Following the incident, officers searched Lao-Rodriguez’s home and found the firearm and related items scattered throughout the house and yard. Lao-Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail for Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

Sentencing for Lao-Rodriguez is May 26.
