A man died after a stolen, running car taken from a Walmart parking lot crashed into another vehicle near West Charleston Boulevard and South Decatur Boulevard, according to Las Vegas police.
Police said the passenger in the stolen Hyundai Sonata was critically injured in the crash and later died at the hospital. The driver and other motorists involved suffered minor or no injuries.
Investigators said the suspect stole the unattended running vehicle, drove off at high speed, and collided with a minivan before striking a rock and a light pole. The suspect, described as having an extensive criminal history, was taken into custody.
Police said the incident appears to be a crime of opportunity and that the victim’s family member had been inside Walmart at the time of the theft.
