NV Energy Issues Data Center Warning

NV Energy says proposed data centers in Nevada could require up to three times the electricity used by the Silver State, raising concerns about meeting the state’s clean energy targets.

According to the utility, the surge is for artificial intelligence infrastructure. Officials warn that the growth may return to a greater reliance on fossil fuels, putting Nevada’s goal of 50% renewable energy by 2030 at risk.

Lawmakers are considering new regulations because of a statewide data center expansion. NV Energy will release a detailed report on the situation later this month.
