Frustration is mounting in Pahrump over thousands of parcels dubbed “Zombie Lots”, pieces of land that owners cannot develop but are still required to pay taxes on.
Many of these lots are too small for basic infrastructure, and the cost of developing them is prohibitively high. The issue gained attention again during a Nye County Commission meeting on Tuesday, as locals demanded solutions during the public comment period.
Patricia Robb, a prominent advocate on the issue, organizes protests, runs a Facebook group, and sends thousands of postcards connecting lot owners. She envisions a future where the parcels could host homes using alternative utilities.
Despite public outcry, only one commissioner addressed the matter during the meeting, and no clear plan has emerged. Complicating the issue, dozens of these lots are to be sold at an online Nye County auction on May 1, with bids starting as low as $900.
