A man convicted of killing a woman and her 4-year-old son in 1993 has been released from prison, prompting outrage from the victims’ family.
The man, identified as Domingues, strangled 24-year-old Arjin Chanel Pechpho and stabbed her young son, Jonathan Smith, in Sunrise Manor. The attack occurred as Pechpho returned home with her child; Domingues had planned to steal her car and eliminate witnesses. He also attempted to electrocute the boy using a hair dryer in a bathtub before stabbing him multiple times.
Domingues was arrested shortly after the crime and, in 1994, became the youngest person in modern Nevada history to receive the death penalty. Following U.S. Supreme Court rulings banning the death penalty for juveniles, his sentence changed from death to life without parole.
In 2020, he was resentenced to life with the possibility of parole, 30 years to life, with credit for time served. He was granted parole in late 2025 and released from prison on or around March 24, at age 49.
