Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has ordered flags to be flown across the state at half-staff to honor the passing of former Lt. Gov. Sue Wagner. Wagner died Tuesday at the age of 86.
Wagner was the first woman elected lieutenant governor in the state’s history. She moved to Nevada in 1969 and began her political career in 1975, when she was elected and served in the Nevada State Assembly until 1980.
She later served in the Nevada State Senate from 1981 to 1989, including two sessions as chair of the Judiciary Committee. Wagner was elected as Nevada’s 30th lieutenant governor in 1991 and served through 1995.
Following her time in elected office, she was appointed to the Nevada Gaming Commission in 1997, where she served for 12 years before retiring in 2009.
