A 39-year-old woman was arrested Thursday evening on suspicion of felony DUI causing substantial bodily harm and other charges following an injury crash in Carson City, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
Deputies arrested Gracie Booth after investigating a vehicle accident reported at approximately 6:42 p.m. near Race Track Road and Schultz Drive. They also booked her on suspicion of misdemeanor open container and driving with a suspended license.
Dispatch advised deputies of an injury crash, and upon arrival, a deputy learned the driver was reportedly uncooperative and attempting to walk away from the scene. Deputies said they believed the woman was under the influence of alcohol.
A deputy observed a newer model blue sedan parked in the middle of the roadway with its front bumper missing. The driver was standing nearby with other deputies. According to the report, the woman swayed as she stood, had slurred speech, and emitted a moderate odor of alcohol.
A responding deputy told the investigating deputy that the woman initially admitted to driving drunk and was holding her car keys. Items removed from her pockets included Chapstick and a small, single-serving bottle of alcohol.
Authorities also learned that a female passenger had jumped from the vehicle following an argument inside the car. The passenger lost a tooth and suffered rib injuries when she exited, according to the report.
The driver initially agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests, but later declined. Based on signs of impairment, deputies placed her in handcuffs. She agreed to provide a preliminary breath test, which showed a reported result of .317, according to the booking report.
After being read the request for voluntary evidence, she refused to submit to a blood or evidentiary breath test. Deputies said they later observed multiple empty and full personal-sized bottles of alcohol and a vape pen believed to contain THC during an inventory of the vehicle.
Due to her reported blood alcohol level, the woman went to a hospital for medical clearance. Because she refused voluntary testing, deputies sought and obtained a warrant to draw her blood. Eventually, a judge approved the warrant.
