Carson City Man Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

A 59-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after a deputy observed him allegedly drifting between lanes and speeding, according to a booking report.

A deputy reported seeing a vehicle traveling westbound on East William Street drift into the center turn lane multiple times. The vehicle then accelerated to approximately 60 mph near Mills Park in a posted 35 mph zone.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of East William Street and North Roop Street. Upon contact, the driver identified himself with a Nevada driver’s license. The deputy noted the man had red, bloodshot, and watery eyes and that there was an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The man denied consuming alcohol and was unable to provide proof of insurance. A records check showed his license was valid.

The deputy again detected the odor of alcohol while speaking with the driver, who continued to deny drinking and said the deputy could test him.

Following a field sobriety test, he showed signs of impairment and provided a preliminary breath test result of .212. Deputies arrested the man on suspicion of DUI.

After being read the request for voluntary evidence, the man declined to provide additional breath or blood samples. The deputy contacted the on-call district attorney and applied for a blood draw seizure order, which was approved.
