Reno Man Sentenced to Life for Murder

A Reno man who admitted to killing his wife has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.

Jack Willhoit, 44, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Evelyn Willhoit.

The case began in May 2024, when Reno Police Department officers responded to the couple’s home after Willhoit called 9-1-1, reporting that his wife had possibly overdosed on narcotics and that he believed she was dead.

When officers and first responders arrived, they found Evelyn Willhoit with extensive injuries, including significant trauma to her face and head, cuts to her face, neck, and throat, and burn marks on her chest and arm. She also had bruises and cuts on her hands.

Detectives observed swelling on the defendant’s knuckles and small cuts and scratches on his hands and forearms. Investigators reported finding blood staining and splatter throughout the home, including on appliances and the victim’s walking cane.

Authorities said the evidence was consistent with a physical assault. An autopsy determined that Evelyn Willhoit died from multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.

Following his guilty plea, Willhoit received a sentence of life without parole.
